In one of my previous posts, I shared the fact that two of our employees are licensed wildlife rehabilitators. Cathy Cummings, our mounting and grouting goddess, is currently raising FIFTEEN baby deer. Luckily Cathy was delighted to bring one to New Ravenna today so we could shamelessly use it as a photo prop.

Don’t you want one? (By the way, the floor is our “Marabel” pattern in honed Thassos and polished Calacatta Tia.)

This particular fawn was uncharacteristically docile. Even so, convincing the deer to lounge on a stone floor under hot lights was challenging. Here are some out-takes:

This creature is quite possibly the cutest animal I have ever seen (or petted). We are truly blessed to have Cathy share her charges (again) with us. Thank you, Cathy!

Wow!
Holy moly that is AWESOME! We're always looking for interesting props and this is the best I've seen by far. And the floor is pretty awesome too!
What an amazing result from inspiration and team work! WOW! I love the photos!
This little Bambi is mimicking the mosaic with its spots! Beautiful floor!
The 2nd photo is STUNNING
Thanks guys. It's going to be difficult to eat venison again…
I can't believe I didn't mention Bambi once! Thanks Claudia and Cyra.
That's way cool. I will fit that in my posting on my blog this morning.
Cool!! I linked you on twitter
Fantastic idea, beautifully executed. Wow!
Wow! Amazing mosaic, adorable fawn, and together they are a masterpiece! I especially love the contrast between the dark deer and the white floor, and the way the light reflects off the mosaic pattern. Brilliant idea for photos – they're absolutely beautiful.
The cutest thing ever! And of course your mosaic is perfection.
Thanks everyone! I forgot to mention that the name of the deer is "Twitter", completely unrelated to the social networking site. I was considering nick-naming it Joe, so the title could be "Joe, a deer"…
I love the picture with just the four legs!
When I read about deer and a mounting goddess, I was thinking taxidermy for a split second. Wildlife rehab is a much better thought.
OMG! I'm really envious!
I missed this post earlier! Love it — what great photos came out of the session. Faves are pic 2 and 3. I had to laugh at the closeup of Twitter's little eyes. The mosaic pattern is beautiful!
Shameless, but so effective. At first I thought you were going to "steal" the fawn's markings for another mosaic skin design.
look at those eyelashes! surely one of natures most precious creatures!!
